This article examines the contradictory conception that the riverine population has about the jungle in the novel "Sangama" by Arturo Hernández. It also analyzes the modernization project that emerges from this conception. It is pointed out that this project is not feasible because it is based on a vision that, instead of promoting its development, will rather promote its destruction.
