The author presents an analysis of 1972 census data that makes it possible to measure the social and economic conditions of the 20 provinces of the Peruvian Upper Jungle. This analysis includes indicators of mortality, socioeconomic levels, basic housing services, and the main types of housing construction, and compares the socioeconomic well-being of these provinces with one another.
