In the face of threats and violations against the Amazon, the Catholic Church has been present in the defense and promotion of the rights of Indigenous peoples through new mechanisms of political advocacy, with the aim of strengthening their own agency. This has fostered the formation of a socio-ecclesial network as a new transnational structure through the founding of the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM), a platform that connects religious groups and Indigenous peoples from Amazonian countries to politicize Indigenous issues from within their own territories and thus participate in public debate.
In this sense, the article analyzes this organization through one of its central instruments, the School of Human Rights, and shows how the configuration of this initiative, which promotes the agency of Amazonian Indigenous peoples, establishes a new organizational model that transforms transnational activism, traditionally associated with order and hierarchy, toward horizontality and respect for autonomy. It demonstrates that the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM) establishes itself as an institutional space for strengthening Indigenous resistance, seeking to constitute itself as an alternative to extractivism from the territories.
