Going and returning: Ritual as a doorway between worlds: Examples in Amazonian Shamanism

The author argues that Amazonian indigenous societies have developed a complex system that governs their relations with the other-world. This invisible world sustains all their activities, nourishes their spirituality, and teaches them the meaning of life; this prevents an energetic imbalance and its manifestations of misfortune. This passage occurs through shamanism, based on the ritualized use of medicinal plants.
