Abstract

Due to the violence that Peru suffered during the past decade, the Central Jungle became a bloody theater of war. After fighting in the jungle against the senderistas (Shining Path members), the Asháninka ronderos (self-defense patrol members) revived ancestral purification practices. Based on this context, the author analyzes the use of images taken from women's biological processes as symbols used in a male ritual.
