Abstract

Based on peccary hunting, this article builds an ethnographic essay on the indigenous notion of point of view, applied to the field of relations between the human and the animal in the cosmology of a Tupi people, the Yudjá. In addition to revealing the particular complexity of these relations, the notion of point of view shows how the notion of the double is irreducible to the notion of soul, how "nature" and "supernature" are effects of perspectives, and how, finally, hunting is inserted into a multiple bilinear spatiotemporal structure, evocative of the "labyrinths" that the Yudjá draw on their skin.
