Protein and Culture in the Amazon: A Second Review

In this essay, the author reaffirms his position on the protein theory, which establishes a relationship between diet and settlement patterns among Amazonian populations. He discusses his critics’ views regarding his datasets and sources of information, showing that they have been unsuccessful in disproving his hypothesis. The author seeks to demonstrate that the availability of wild protein is a limiting factor for the size, permanence, and density of human settlements in the Amazon and Orinoco river basins.
