En este ensayo, el autor reafirma su posición sobre la teoría de las proteínas que establece una relación entre la dieta y los patrones de asentamiento entre las poblaciones amazónicas. Describe los puntos de vista de sus críticos sobre sus conjuntos de datos y sus fuentes de información, mostrando que no tienen éxito en probar su hipótesis. Nuestro autor quiere demostrar que la disponibilidad de proteínas silvestres es un factor limitante para el tamaño, permanencia y densidad de los asentamientos humanos en las cuencas del Amazonas y del Orinoco.
