Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the main explanations concerning variations in the compadrazgo complex and to propose a more meaningful approach by incorporating similar ritual practices into the analysis, beyond the influence of Christianity, such as the couvade and a case in which birth itself entails ritual ceremonies.
