Variabilidade e mudança nos nomes pessoais em uma sociedade indígena amazônica

Este artigo apresenta uma discussão geral sobre as características dos nomes pessoais entre os Ese Eja. Através de um exame do significado dos sonhos, descrevo o processo pelo qual os Ese Eja de uma comunidade do rio Heath, Madre de Dios, Peru, recebem seus nomes pessoais no contexto dinâmico dos conceitos de gênero, reprodução, cosmologia e doença. Sugiro que os nomes apresentam mensagens multidirecionais e invocam narrativas de relações sociais e ecológicas. O artigo conclui com uma discussão sobre a dinâmica de mudança nos nomes pessoais Ese Eja e sua relação com as mudanças na estrutura social.
