Variabilidad y cambio en los nombres personales en una sociedad indígena amazónica

Resumen

Este artículo presenta una discusión general sobre las características de los nombres personales entre los Ese Eja. A través de un examen del significado de los sueños describo el proceso mediante el cual los Ese Eja de una comunidad del río Heath, Madre de Dios, Perú, reciben sus nombres personales en el contexto dinámico de los conceptos de género, reproducción, cosmología y enfermedad. Sugiero que los nombres presentan mensajes multidireccionales e invocan narrativas de relaciones sociales y ecológicas. El artículo concluye con una discusión sobre la dinámica de cambio en los nombres personales Ese Eja, y su relación en los cambios en la estructura social.
