Public investment and human development in the awajun and wampis peoples in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region: 2004 – 2019

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between the human development of the Awajun and Wampis peoples and public investment in the province of Condorcanqui in the period 2004-2019. The study is longitudinal in nature, since it udes/adopted historical data corresponding to the period 2004-2019, in order to analyze the behavior of the dependent and independent variables in each year of the time considered. This approach allowed us to identify key patterns and trends in the relationship between public investment and human development. Among the main results obtained, it stands out that public investment as a whole contributes significantly to human development, with a 99% confidence level. However, when the variables are disaggregated, important differences are observed. Investment in the health sector shows a negative relationship with the human development index, suggesting that a unit increase in the proportion of public investment in health could result in a 0.0021 reduction in this index. On the contrary, investment in the education sector shows a directly proportional relationship with human development, since a unit increase in public investment in education translate into an increase of 0.5054 in the human development index. In conclusion, this study shows that public investment grounded in an intercultural approach is more effective in meeting the needs of the Awajún and Wampís communities and plays a significant role in enhancing their human development outcomes. These findings point to the importance of improving the design and implementation of culturally responsive public policies tailored to the social realities of these populations.
