History of the Asháninka Community of El Milagro and School: Oral History and Memory

Abstract

This article presents a reflection on the construction of the history of the Asháninka community of El Milagro, located in the Marankiari Valley, in the district of Satipo, in the Peruvian Central Rainforest, as documented by a teacher from the Asháninka people. It discusses four aspects related to history and memory. The first concerns the sources and the creation of an oral archive in contexts of subjectivity; the second focuses on the analysis of the reconstructed document presented as the history of the community; the third examines the pedagogical use of the history reconstructed from the memories of Indigenous community members within the context of the demands of a rural school characterized by and operating under the framework of Intercultural Bilingual Education policy; and finally, it presents some notes from the perspectives of oral history and memory that...
