Few jungle plant species appear as unremarkable to the unsuspecting observer as this variety of grass, which can easily go unnoticed. Used by numerous South American indigenous groups, it plays an important role in traditional medicine—it is applied to snake bites—as well as in other human activities, since it is believed to increase cassava yields, attract fish, and so on.
