Abstract

In this study, the author analyzes male hunting behavior among the Shipibo Indians who live along the Pisqui River. The author describes the fauna, which is subdivided into four categories: big game; small game; turtles; and birds and fish. The hunting area is also divided into the areas surrounding the community, the “jungle centers,” the river, the lakes, and the streams. In addition to describing the organization and strategies used by the indigenous people to obtain food, the study also compares the protein content of the diets of Shipibo groups living in riverine areas with those living in interfluvial areas.
