The author analyzes the problem of the destruction of forest ecosystems caused by rubber tapping, forest exploration, the extermination of wildlife, agricultural migration, and various coexistence projects. He presents various possible alternatives, such as the creation of reserves, national parks, integrated rural settlements, more appropriate legislation, and better use of traditional indigenous knowledge and techniques, thereby enabling the sustainable use of the rainforest’s natural resources without destroying them.
