Peer review process

Amazonía Peruana follows a double-blind peer-review process that is fast, fair, and ensures the high quality of published articles. Amazonía Peruana’s reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest and maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts they review. The opinions of Amazonía Peruana’s reviewers regarding the manuscripts are invaluable in helping the editor-in-chief and the editorial board make their decisions. Peer review will help you stay up to date in your field and gain new insights that will enhance the quality and value of your own research.

Authors of Amazonía Peruana will receive notifications regarding manuscript receipt and editorial decisions via the journal’s OJS platform and email.

All submissions to the journal Amazonía Peruana undergo a double-blind peer review process conducted by reviewers selected on an ad hoc basis to ensure the quality of the content. The review system adopted by the journal relies on national and international reviewers who are external to the publishing entity. In the first stage, the editor-in-chief and members of the Editorial Board verify the manuscript’s format and style to ensure compliance with the Amazonía Peruana Guidelines for Authors. If authors have not followed the guidelines, the manuscript will be returned for revision. This initial review process takes approximately 4 weeks.

The manuscript will then be assigned to section editors and/or members of the Editorial Board, depending on the subject area and the decision of the responsible editor, for a quick preliminary review within 5 days. The section editors and/or members of the Editorial Board verify the quality of the manuscript’s content (with a focus on methodology, originality, and contribution to knowledge and practice). The decision at this stage is to either reject the manuscript promptly, request revisions and resubmission, or assign external reviewers for a detailed evaluation process. The selection of external reviewers is based on their scientific background and experience, previous work, recommendations from Editorial Board members, and expertise. Amazonía Peruana makes every effort to obtain at least 2 or 3 thorough reviews for each manuscript. The editor-in-charge receives the reviewers’ comments and forwards them, along with the decision letter, to the corresponding author.

Since Amazonía Peruana is a rapid-response journal, the review process takes between 3 and 6 months. The decision letter from Amazonía Peruana determines the status of the manuscript in three ways, which are specified in the Review Opinion section.

Review Opinion

Reviewers must choose one of the following options after evaluating the manuscript:

• Accepted: The manuscript requires no major changes, likely only minor adjustments suggested by the reviewer.
• Accepted with revisions: The manuscript requires major changes as suggested by the reviewer.
• Rejected: The manuscript cannot be published and, for various academic and/or research-related reasons, does not meet editorial quality standards. The rejection may pertain to the abstract, objectives, methods and techniques, results, discussion, conclusions, or references.
