A Abundância de Proteínas na Amazônia: Uma Resposta a Gross

Um exame crítico da hipótese de Gross, segundo a qual todas as populações amazônicas originais estavam limitadas a baixos níveis populacionais pela falta de recursos proteicos adequados, conclui que: (1) as evidências, tanto favoráveis quanto contrárias à hipótese, ainda são escassas; (2) o papel das proteínas vegetais nas dietas indígenas requer muito mais atenção e, em última instância, pode enfraquecer a hipótese da limitação proteica; (3) a abundância de proteínas de origem animal na floresta tropical também pode ter sido subestimada; e (4) a população amazônica anterior ao contato europeu também pode ter sido
