This article examines published sources related to the Kofán language and people. This enables the author to comment on the problem of the language’s uncertain genetic affiliation. The author also presents ethnographic data on the Cofán people and their language, based on fieldwork conducted in Dureno (eastern Ecuador) in 1972. A linguistic data appendix is included at the end.
